The Pandemic, 2021, Oil on Canvas, 150 x 125 cm

Since ancient times, pandemics have tortured humans on earth. Nowadays, higher population density and mobility cause a faster worldwide spread with higher fatalities. Now we witness a new one, named Covid. The medical staff, scientists, and most communities are doing their best to fight the disease against the resistance of illiterates. Scientific facts ignoring politicians in Berlin and elsewhere hardly could manage to control the worldwide spread. Yet Covid seems to play with all those helping hands like tigers while waves of new mutants overrun the world. I led a tiger dance with nurses and doctors while the virus continued its cruel game in the rather bad weather conditions of the capital town. It was not the first pandemic, and it won’t be the last. But by no means will the patient be no longer only us humans; meanwhile, as seen in the painting in the lower-left corner, it is the entire planet Earth that is under treatment and needs to be hospitalized with intense technical assistance to withstand man-made crises. Even a clever vaccine alone won’t help human beings become prepared for future crises.
